For “El Dolor de la naturaleza” (the The Pain of Nature) project—a centerpiece of the MASS Digital Cultures and Arts Encounter—I was invited as the Lead Visual and Interactive Artist. Collaborating closely with director Liz Rincón, I was responsible for architecting the immersive fulldome environment, translating ancestral narratives and environmental defense themes into a high-fidelity audiovisual experience.
Technical Strategy & Creative Coding My objective was to create a digital landscape that felt organic and reactive, bridging the gap between ritual performance and creative technology.
- Generative Art & Creative Coding: Using a custom-engineered pipeline, I developed generative visuals that symbolized the “heartbeats” and “wounds” of the territory. These visuals were not static videos but dynamic systems that evolved throughout the performance.
- Audio-Reactive Systems: To ensure total immersion, I designed the visuals to be fully integrated with the sound design. The visual environment responded in real-time to the live performance by Liz Rincón and the group of women community leaders.
- Interactive Design: I implemented interactive layers that allowed the performers to influence the digital space, turning the fulldome surface into a living participant in the ritual.
The Performance The work functioned as a “sensory tapestry,” where my technical systems provided the spatial context for the live ritual and traditional songs. By utilizing immersive fulldome projection, we successfully “plunged” the audience into the stories of southwestern Colombia, making the intelligible “wounds” of the territory visible and visceral through the lens of digital art.
